Alabama is popularly known for being an artistic hotspot of the South, the center of the Civil Rights Movement, and for being an industrial and steel hub. But did you know that it also has some pretty fantastic running trails too?
Birmingham has diverse and interesting sights, with a great variety of multi-use trails, gorgeous neighborhoods, and full-fledged running trails that aren’t too far away from the city. You could pick any of the short, multi-use paths in the city for a reasonably challenging run—these routes highlight local parks. If you’re more adventurous, you could try out Oak Mountain State Park! Here are three interesting routes we think you’ll enjoy regardless of your ability level.
Jemison Trail
The Jemison Trail is incorporated into the 54 mile Jenison Linear Park, but don’t worry! You won’t be running anywhere near the entire 54 miles. This concrete path is right along the scenic Shades Creek and offers one of the most beautiful views of the neighborhood.
Oak Mountain State Park
Just 30 minutes away from downtown Birmingham, Oak Mountain State Park is home to the beautiful Peavine Falls and is considered one of the greatest running trails in all of America. While there is an entrance fee of $4 to enter the trails, we think it’s money well spent for the exhilarating views and terrain.
Railroad Park and University
This one is definitely a must-do running trail! The Railroad Park and University trail allows you to take in the beautiful sights of the University of Alabama. The route includes going through an LED tunnel and long stretches of greenery.
Remember To Take Care of Your Feet!
Taking care of your feet is absolutely essential if you plan to engage in any form of physical activity, especially running. Wearing proper footwear, maintaining the correct running form, and committing to proper hygiene are just some of the things you must take care of if you want to partake in recreational or competitive running.
That being said, if you happen to suffer from any injury during your morning runs or develop foot problems, you know who to call! At Foot Specialists of Birmingham we strive to provide you with the best care possible, so just drop us a line and we’ll be glad to assist you.
