Sand Is Hot
When you first arrive at the beach, it can seem tempting to rush right into the beach barefoot. Many soon realize that’s not a wise thing to do because the sand can be scalding hot and cause blisters on your feet. At the very least, try to keep your shoes on until you’ve gauged the sand’s temperature to ensure you don’t hurt yourself.
Beach Sports Require Shoes!
This is one of the most overlooked precautions while people are at the beach. If you plan on playing volleyball or jogging in the sand, remember that you are at a high risk of twisting your bare feet. It’s not safe at all to be engaging in vigorous activity without any foot support (and no, flip flops don’t count) because you will put yourself at risk for plantar fasciitis, sprains, and more. Ditch your flip flops for sturdier sandals at the very least, and if possible opt for proper shoes instead. You’ll be thankful you did!
Clean Your Feet Before Wearing Shoes Again
If you’ve enjoyed your day at the beach and are ready to go back home, remember to thoroughly clean your feet before putting on socks or shoes. Grains of sand trapped between your feet and footwear will rub against your skin, which is not only uncomfortable but can also lead to sores and blisters. Apart from this, sand is likely to get trapped between your toes or inside your nails and this is not something you want. It can breed infection faster and more severely than you think.
Have Adequate Foot Protection in the Water
If you are planning to go paddling, it’s important that you wear sturdy water shoes. There’s a huge risk of getting cut or bruised by sharp objects in the water or even aquatic animals. If you have any existing cuts on your feet, it is advisable that you avoid the water altogether as you will put yourself at risk of contracting infection.
